Who We Are
Over a decade ago the Evening Competitive Masters (ECM) team started, as all good things do, over beers at an Irish bar. The team was born out of a Learn to Row class of dedicated adult rowers. Over the past decade the team has grown and evolved to attract new and experienced rowers and coxswains. Today we are a diverse team of dedicated athletes that includes National and World champions.
We train and play hard in an inclusive team environment that rewards dedication and fun while competing at the nation’s biggest regattas. You’ll find us pushing ourselves every “Race Day Saturday” and then celebrating our successes and friendship the third Thursday of the month at JJ Mahoney’s Irish bar. The bar that started it all.
If you want to be part of something special that develops you as a competitive athlete in a supportive team environment, click the registration information below or contact Lee Henderson.

Evening Competitive Masters is comprised of two teams, the Novice Team and the Experienced Team.
Novice Team
The Evening Novice Team will take a beginner to the next level of rowing and racing. The focus is on developing technique, rowing as a team, and building fitness. Rowers will compete on the Novice Team for one to two years, as they become proficient at rowing in all boats (1x, 2x, 2-, 4x, 4+, 8+). Experienced Team
The Evening Experienced Team is a dedicated group of athletes with the desire to continue to develop their rowing skills, get faster, and compete at local and national regattas. The team fields all classes of boats: sweep, sculling, men, women, and mixed. All rowers are expected to attend practices regularly, and training on non-practice days is highly encouraged. Prerequisites: Completion of the novice program or coach approval |
Our coaches who help us get faster
Head Coach: Lee Henderson Lee has a passion for rowing that spans 20+ years, first as a rower and then as an assistant coach at Ohio State University. He joined SRA over a decade ago as the head coach of ECM where he continues to grow and apply his passion for leading a competitive team.
Assistant Coach: Dennis Ferrer Dennis is an SRA alumnus ’10, who then moved on to cox for UW, leading the freshman 8+ to a silver medal at the IRA National Championships. He began coaching in high school and became the junior men's assistant coach in 2013 while still at UW. He is currently the SRA Director of Membership and Community and Head Coach for the junior women, addition to coaching ECM.
Assistant Coach: Matt Lundberg Matt learned to row in Florida where he fell in love with first sweep, then sculling. While at FSU he began coaching at his high school alma mater and after a few years, joined on as assistant coach for FSU as well. Matt moved to the West coast in 2016 and started coaching masters at SRA while looking for engineering jobs, but when asked about it, he'll tell you that coaching "beats working for a living“.
