The Mid-Morning Competitive Masters team is a unique crew of athletes where there is a seat for the entire spectrum of experience, abilities, and motivation including beginning novice, recreational, and regionally/nationally competitive masters. The team has competed and celebrated solid finishes and medals in nationally recognized regattas, including US Nationals, San Diego Crew Classic and the Head of the Charles Regatta.
Mid-Morning is fortunate to be coached by Matt Lundberg, a proven athlete developer. Recruited by Sammamish Rowing in 2016, he started out as Assistant Coach for Mid-Morning and became Mid-Morning Head Coach in 2019. He is also the Head Novice Coach across all Masters teams since 2016 and consistently led this team to top finishes at NW Rowing Regional Championship Regatta. Additionally, he developed and started the sculling team at SRA in the Spring of 2016.
The Mid-Morning team environment focuses on dedication and training hard while always striving for improvement. We expect commitment to the team on and off the water in terms of effort and mutual support. Despite the difference in our backgrounds or reason for rowing, we come together on some common qualities that we all value, and they are: healthy competition, enjoying the process, mutual respect, and mutual support. We also like to have fun every now and then with Fancy-Pants Fridays, Halloween/Holiday Costume Rows, and participate in the Lake Sammamish Holiday Lights Parade. Additionally, we spend time together for several annual lunches and dinners to celebrate our successes as a team.
Our coaches help us reach our full potential and support our individual goals. We row Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mostly on water during the mid-morning when conditions are ideal and for those who are participating in Regional/National regattas we also have planned off day workouts that are done individually or with the team.
Most of our athletes began rowing as adults and this team would be a good fit those who are learning the sport, rowing recreationally, and for those striving to win medals at regional and national levels.
