The 3 Pillars of Health

To be the best athlete you can be, and just overall best version of yourself, you'll need to take care of three aspects of your health. Especially during current Stay at Home orders, physical, mental, and emotional health are more important than ever as our daily rituals and routines are interrupted or changed. Explore this page for more tips on how to help these three areas of your health.

Physical

The area of health having to do with your physical body. Physical health recommendations are made mostly by your doctor, but the general rules of daly exercise and importance of movement are commonly known.

Mental

Mental health refers to the health of your mind. Energy, attitude, mood, thinking, and behavior can be affected by this aspect of your health and it is often overlooked or ignored in daily life.

Emotional

Emotional health is much like mental health. Emotional health, however, can be even more so impacted by others rather than just yourself. Emotional health relates to you and your relationships.
Tips for Physical

  • Stick to a routine schedule for working out
  • Try different activities to challenge different muscles and keep yourself engaged in your workouts
  • Find a balance between training muscles and endurance
  • Find someone at home who can do workouts with you or a friend via video chat
  • Aim to workout at least 4 days a week
  • Fit in time for plenty of stretching

Tips for Mental

  • Stick to a daily schedule that allows time for work, a workout, family time, and personal hobbies
  • Be willing to talk to others about your daily struggles
  • Do something you enjoy
  • When you can get it, get some sunshine
  • Remember to eat a healthy diet and treats in moderation
  • Get plenty of sleep each night
  • If mental problems persist, schedule an appointment with a doctor or therapist
Tips for Emotional

  • Stay connected to your loved ones- FaceTime, zoom, and normal telephone calls help during Stay at Home orders
  • Plan certain times of the day to be with your family and have structured family time
  • If possible and if safe, go on a walk with a close friend. Maintain 6ft distance between yourselves
  • Express your feelings in appropriate ways
  • Find meaning and purpose in each day- schedules are so important. Try making some goals to accomplish
