FALL SEASON – NEW ROWERS - TRY ROWING
Try Rowing is a mutual evaluation period in which rowers going into grades 8-12 participate in regular practice five days a week to see if SRA’s high school team is a good fit. At the end of the three-week session, coaches invite interested participants to join the team or recommend they wait for another season.
Being part of SRA’s high school team is an active commitment to a racing team and can be physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding. Try Rowing gives rowers and their families a chance to decide if they are ready for this level of commitment and gives coaches an opportunity to assess athletes’ physical and mental readiness.
Try Rowing is mandatory for anyone new to SRA’s high school team, including those who rowed for another high school team, participated in summer camp, or attended Row for a Day. Rowers going into 8th grade are eligible to sign up for Try Rowing. However, coaches will only extend invitations to join the team to those few 8th graders who demonstrate the physical and mental maturity needed to keep up with competitive high school athletes.
